I don't know about you, but I needed to be reminded of a few things this morning now that the presidential election is over. I needed reminding that "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'The LORD is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in him.'" - Lam 3:22-24
I needed reminding that God once reserved "seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal." - 1 Kgs 19:18
I needed reminding that President Obama is a puppet in God's hands (Prov 21:1).
I needed reminding that President Obama is going to gain a lot of glory for God over the next four years. I pledge to pray fervently that he does so as God's friend, and not his enemy, for "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." - Heb 10:31
I needed reminding that we serve a Commander-in-Chief who has never known defeat (Matt. 16:18).
I needed reminding that God always moves forward, that he always does what is best for him (Prov 19:21).
I needed reminding that nothing that happened yesterday can impede our fulfilling the will of God: His will that we mature spiritually (1 Thess 4:3), his will that all men and women be saved (1 Tim 2:4), and his will that all things bring him glory (Rom 11:36).
I needed reminding from Jesus, "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me." - John 14:1
Father, thank you for the corrective your Word gives to us. Thank you for your unceasing faithfulness that is renewed to us every morning. Remind us constantly that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to your Son. I pray for our President, his family, and his advisors. I pray that you will give him the heart of king David. I pray that you will give him the wisdom of king Solomon. In the meantime, give to your people faith, strength, and patience. Faith that what you say in your Word is so very true. Strength to go about fulfilling your will in the world. Patience with us when we act like the sky is falling. Help us not to trust in man, but in you. Help us to see that elections can so easily distract us from Kingdom work. We repent of our faithlessness to you. Help us to see that what happened yesterday will somehow find its end in these words: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” In the name of that Lamb. Amen.
