My Favorite Part of the Day

May I tell you about the highlight of my day? On those days that Sara does not work, I try to spend a lot of time at the office to get things "knocked out." But I come home for lunch. Eating lunch at home has become the highlight of my day, regardless of whether it's a hot meal, leftovers, or just a sandwich. Not only do I get to spend quality time with my wife…

I also get to hold Little Man. My son likes being held for some inexplicable reason, and to give mom a break, I hold him. I've become quite good at it. He sits in my lap with my left arm wrapped around him for security. I've learned to eat exclusively with my right hand. While I eat, Little Man will look up at me, look at his mommy, stare at some shiny or interesting thing that has caught his attention, or stare at my plate as if he wants a bite. He rarely squirms and is never fussy. He likes being held by his father. As I said, it's the highlight of my day.

Do you like being held by your heavenly Father? Do you make the time to spend precious moments in his arms? Let me suggest a few ways you can do so:

Spend time wrapped in God's arms of Joy

God isn't a cranky old man whose window you just broke with baseball. God is filled with joy. Nehemiah exhorted his people to let the joy of God be their strength. God loves to express joy and desires that we do the same. Rejoicing in Scripture is a command. I want you to pause for a moment and know the joy of uninterrupted, uncompromised fellowship with the Father.

Spend time wrapped in God's arms of Strength

You're carrying way too much on your shoulders today. You're bearing burdens God never intended you to bear. Did you know that, if we humble ourselves before God, he gives us permission to make him responsible for our stresses and worries? Peter says so in 1 Peter 5. Stop what you're doing and embrace the relief found in knowing that only God is in control, only he knows the future, and that he has promised to work all things for your good and His glory.

Spend time wrapped in God's arms of Peace

I've often heard it said that peace is not found in the absence of storms, but in the presence of the Savior. When we allow ourselves to be held by Christ, nothing can take us out of his hand. Only with God can we find the peace that passes all understanding, the serenity that can keep us calm in any storm. You may have a lot of turmoil right now in your life. Call timeout and experience a few moments of God's incomprehensible peace.

Spend time wrapped in God's arms of Love

God's love for us is immeasurable. There is no adequate way to describe it. Even when we are faithless to him, he is faithful. He will never leave or forsake us, and nothing can separate us from his love. God's love for you is greater than yo' momma's. Are you in need of a little unconditional love today? Pause, pray, and thank God for the love he has for you in Christ. Read Scriptures that speak of God's love and revel in it right now.

Don't go another day without allowing your heavenly Father to hold you… if only for a few moments.
