The most careful of planners and most thorough of strategists never knows all that the future holds. Ten-year and five-year plans are great, but they quickly get altered or flushed down the drain entirely in the unpredictable world we live in. A little less than two years ago, I launched Start2Finish Books. The name wasn't anything new to me. In May 2008, I began a bulletin article called "Start2Finish," and when I launched a personal blog in January 2010, I gave it the same name. Today, I'm very excited to announce another milestone in the continuing evolution of Start2Finish.
We live in very exciting times given the digital age we live in. There are now enormous possibilities for God's people that were not even conceivable a generation ago, possibilities to collaborate for God's glory. But with these exciting times come daunting challenges. We are inundated with media all around us, and it's not always easy to discern which voices are trustworthy and which ones are not.
My prayer and dream for Start2Finish has always been that it would become more than a publishing company. In short, my prayer is that it would become a trusted, engaging, prophetic voice for this generation. The Hebrew word for "prophet" simply means "mouthpiece," i.e. one who speaks on behalf of another. In that spirit, my prayer for Start2Finish is that it would become a trusted mouthpiece for God, a voice pleading for a return to Scripture, a return to NT Christianity, a return to glorifying Christ in every way.
Over the next several weeks, you will notice changes (large and small) take place as Start2Finish evolves to better meet (by God's grace) this awesome responsibility. Here are some of the highlights.
New Web Presence
From now on, start2finishbooks.com will redirect to our new site, start2finish.org. We are permanently merging our publishing and blogging endeavors. If you created an account on the old http://start2finishbooks.com site in the last few weeks, it should be available on this new site. If not, contact us and let us know.
I'm blessed to know some very talented and creative communicators, and I want them to have help us in our mission. A few weeks ago, Ashley Hudson became a featured writer for Start2Finish and blogs every Friday in her column There's an App for That. Ashley offers up encouraging and convicting points that women (and some of us men) need to consider. Ashley has also authored terrific Bible class curriculum that we hope to make available in the future.
As of today, Steven Hunter, associate minister for the Lehman Ave Church of Christ in Bowling Green, KY, has officially joined the Start2Finish family with his new weekly blog column, Classically Christian. Steven is a serious student of history and classical literature, so he always has a rich and unique take on any number of themes. Be sure to check out his premiere provocative article on the idolatry of government.
I'm excite about other authors who will be joining us soon, but I can't quite announce who/what yet as the details are being finalized. But over the next 90 days, you will see additional writers join our ranks.
While we're talking about all things new with Start2Finish, I'm pumped about two new books that will be releasing before the end of the year. Most of you know about Five Minutes with God and The Thrill of Hope: A Commentary on Revelation, that they are set for release on November 25th (Books4Life members should get their copies sooner).
But before the end of the year, I'm pleased to announce that Start2Finish Books will be publishing Pressing Forward: Bible-Based Addiction Recovery by Trent Childers. Trent a minister at the Collierville, TN Church of Christ who sought help for addiction in 2004. As a recovering addict and committed Christian, Trent brings a unique voice to the subject of addiction recovery from a Christian perspective. Opting for biblical principles over a 12-step program, Trent's approach is based on proven methods that have a higher rate of success than secular recovery programs. For individuals or churches that have been looking for a resource to use in reaching addicts in their communities, this book is a must. Pressing Forward releases on December 30th and is now available for pre-order on our online store.
In addition to Trent's book, my second installment in my Guides to the Minor Prophets is set to release on December 30th also. The Pouting Preacher: A Guide to Jonah will debut as an eBook as did Esau's Doom: A Guide to Obadiah. Studying Jonah the past few weeks has been rewarding, but also challenging as I have been forced to meditate on the daunting implications of the text, implications that I'm not very comfortable with. When you read the book, I think you'll see why. Learn more about the book here and save $2 when you pre-order it.
As Start2Finish continues to grow, both in the near and distant future, here's what you can expect to see.
- More books (duh!) in print, eBook, and audiobook formats
- More writers and guest bloggers with regular columns
- More audio and video content
- A new logo representing Start2Finish as more than a book publishing company
- A high quality mobile app for iOS and Android users
In light of these new and exciting changes, I'd like to invite you to pray for Start2Finish, that we would be faithful and responsible stewards of the opportunities God gives us. Pray that we would indeed become a trusted, engaging voice calling people back to the Bible, back to NT Christianity, back to glorifying Jesus.
In all things, to God be all the glory. Great things he has done and is doing.
